I wonder, though, if all stories are crime stories. Often the difference is crime fiction is explicit, as in a dead body appears; whereas, other fiction the "crime" is implicit, such as internal murder, murder of an idea, a way of life, an intimate relationship, the end of a day. I think a novel that covers all of it is "Crime and Punishment". A psychology professor once told me that he could teach Intro to Psychology and use nothing but that one novel.
