In David Unger’s novel Para mí, eres divina Olivia is the
main character. The journey starts in 1970. She is a dreamer a restless six
year old girl who lives with her mother and younger brother in a coffee
plantation, in the middle of Guatemala’s ¨green and leafy mountains¨. Her
destiny is no different than that of the rest of the inhabitants in the
coffee plantation. A life of hopelessness, and misery. One day, by coincidence
Olivia discovers a copy of Vanidades´ magazine. The cover of the magazine shows
a smiling blonde girl, dressed up in a cowboy outfit and who also has her same
name: this is the famous Olivia Newton John. This encounter marks an
important moment in Olivia’s life. On her way back to the hut where she lives
¨She remembers the image of the cowgirl. Her feet barely touching the ground,
and she nearly flying¨.
