Happy Christmas and merry holidays, all.
Winter Solstice Floricanto On-line at Facebook Link
The snow that deep December day that buried the middle and northeastern part of North America serves as a reminder why ancient gente honor and value the Winter Solstice. This is that deepest and darkest of December days, it's all uphill from here.
La Bloga friend Francisco X. Alarcón devoted a year's effort to bringing together 85 voices from around the world celebrating the Winter Solstice of 2013. Alarcón names it a Collective Winter Solstice Poem (Haiga).
Francisco published the celebration at Facebook, asking his friends to share it widely. Click here to view the collection, share it with friends.
The Gluten-free Chicano
Marty Giffen Bakes Miracle Bread
It was a few days before Xmas and The Gluten-free Chicano's friend Marty Giffen baked gluten-free cranberry bread. I know because she brought it over to Casa Sedano and left one delectable, still warm from the oven.
I've bemoaned the failure of bread analogs to the point I ask my familia and friend not to trouble themselves to offer me a gluten-free cake or pie. No analog of bread satisfies, for several reasons, including crumb, texture, and flavor.
Marty's recipe is a paradigm shift in gluten-free baking. Tender crumb pleasing texture, an out-of-this-world flavor enhanced by the surprise and bite of fresh cranberries, baked to custardy softness. A sugar coating on top arrived slightly crispy, just the right crunch to remind a person how good wheat goods used to taste.
The Gluten-free Chicano returns next week, perhaps with Marty's recipe.
