Our La Bloga friend and 2018 City of McAllen Poet
Laureate, Edward Vidaurre, invites our readers to submit for a Special
Anthology of Contemporary Chicanx. See
the following guidelines.
“Cutthroat, A Journal of the Arts and The Black Earth Institute are
collaborating to publish an Anthology of Contemporary Chicanx Writing.
We are accepting online submissions from August 1,
2018 to October 1, 2018 for a special ANTHOLOGY OF CONTEMPORARY CHICANX WRITING
TO BE PUBLISHED IN 2019.
GUIDELINES: For this anthology we are looking for Chicanx writers of poems and
prose (short stories, flash fiction, hybrids, essays, memoir pieces) from the
rasquache to the refined. We want
writing that goes deep into the culture and reveals our heritage in new
ways. We want experiences, from blue
collar gigs to going into higher education and pursuing PhDs. We want work that challenges. That is irreverent. Than is both defiant and
inventive. That is well-crafted. That is puro Chicanx.
SEND 3-5 POEMS, 100 LINE LIMIT PER POEM, ONE SHORT
STORY, ESSAY, MEMOIR PIECE OR FLASH FICTION UP TO 4000 WORDS. DO NOT SEND MORE THAN ONE SUBMISSION DURING A
READING PERIOD UNLESS YOU ARE ASKED TO DO SO BY AN EDITOR. WE WILL DISQUALIFY MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONSIN THE
SAME GENRE.
Online submissions only at www.cutthroatmag.com
Payment in contributor copies.
All book profits are donated to Raices, the
International Inmmigration Law Center and other worthy Chicanx nonprofit
organizations.
Editorial and
Advisory Boards include Luis Alberto Urrea, Matt Mendez, Octavio Quintanilla,
Beth Alvarado, Edward Vidaurre, Carmen Calatayud, Pam Uschuk, and William Root.
