War with Words

The words refuse
Play hard to get
Hide deep within
Dark maze of age.

I spy them
Peeking out
From soft pages
Yet unborn.

Elusive and coy
Demanding more
But my doubt
Delays delivery.

This should be easy
Except desire
Comes with a price
Forever due.

Then, at last,
The plot
And paragraphs
Emerge.

The disappointment
Does not surprise
Desire even now
Burns amber heat.

I begin again
My circular search
The words refuse
Play hard to get.
