Pinto de azul los miedos

y el mundo se abre.

 

Los caminos bloqueados

quieren derrocar la maldad.

 

Denso aliento

se expande entre la gente.

 

No hay bellas palabras

ni dorados crepúsculos.

 

Demonios agitados

de lenguas blancas

 

expulsan fuego azul,

golpean a los diferentes.

 

Devoran los inocentes

sin piedad.

 

Furia de las masas,

incontenido tsunami.

 

¿Dónde está la justicia?

 

¿Dónde la poesía?

 

Sumergidos entre

nubes azules

cuerpos y manos.

 

Los pies recorren

los campos.

 

El veneno azul

se expande.

Where Is Justice?

 

I paint fear blue

and the world opens up.

 

Blocked paths

strive to overthrow evil.

 

Heavy breath

expands among the people.

 

There are no elegant words

nor golden dawns.

 

Agitated demons

with white tongues

 

expel blue flames,

they strike those who are different.

 

They devour the innocent

mercilessly.

 

Fury of the masses,

uncontained tsunami.

 

Where is justice?

 

And where the poetry?

 

Submerged amidst

blue clouds

bodies and hands.

 

Feet cross

the fields.

 

Blue venom

expands.

 

Where is justice?

 

And where the poetry?

 

 

Πού βρίσκεται η δικαιοσύνη;

 

Χρωματίζω με γαλάζιο τους φόβους

κι ο κόσμος ανοίγει.

 

Οι δρόμοι αποκλεισμένοι

θέλουν ν’ ανατρέψουν την κακία.

 

Ανάσα βαριά

εξαπλώνεται ανάμεσα στον κόσμο.

 

Δεν υπάρχουν όμορφες λέξεις

μήτε χρυσαφένια δειλινά.

 

Δαίμονες βίαιοι

με γλώσσες άσπρες

 

αποβάλλουν φλόγα γαλάζια,

χτυπούν τους διαφορετικούς.

 

Καταβροχθίζουν τους αθώους

δίχως οίκτο.

 

Μανία των μαζών,

τσουνάμι ασταμάτητο.

 

Πού βρίσκεται η δικαιοσύνη;

 

Πού η ποίηση;

 

Βυθισμένοι ανάμεσα

σε γαλάζια σύννεφα

σώματα και χέρια.

 

Τα πόδια διατρέχουν

τους κάμπους.

 

Το γαλάζιο δηλητήριο

εξαπλώνεται.

 

Πού βρίσκεται η δικαιοσύνη;

 

Πού η ποίηση;

 

 

“¿Dónde está la justicia?” is part of the collection Lágrima roja by Xánath Caraza (Editorial Nazarí, 20217).  This collection was originally written in Spanish.  Of the International Latino Book Awards, Caraza received First Place for Lágrima roja for “Best Book of Poetry in Spanish by One Author” in 2018.

 

“Where Is Justice?” and “Πού βρίσκεται η δικαιοσύνη;” are part of the collection Red Teardrop / Κόκκινο δάκρυ (Pandora Lobo Estepario Productions, 2022).  This collection by Caraza was translated into the English by Sandra Kingery and Aaron Willsea, and into the Greek by Natasa Lambrou. Of the International Latino Book Awards, in 2023, Red Teardrop received Gold Medal for Best Fiction Book Translation—Spanish to English.
